With my son if we see something that is inappropriate in public we will talk about it in the car and talk about what we would have done differently if we were in their position and also WHY we would have done things differently. Once they know they the why then they have a better understanding and it helps form good habits.Financial Help for single dadshttp://www.singledadfinancialhelp.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3210108707580237459.post-50123115745887105362010-10-08T12:00:39.834-04:002010-10-08T12:00:39.834-04:00That ain't nothing but the truth homie. Look up the etymology for education and you'll see what I mean.

Its not about facts and figures but to inspire and open closed minds.

Me and the kids drove by a soccer field yesterday, and a game was in full swing. Taylor asked "daddy why do Mexican people like soccer so much".

My first response was "the same reason I like soccer and the same reason white, Asian any other person would like to play soccer". But I feel that that answer was good so I added.

A discussion of national sports, and how many countries have a national sport. Then I had her tell me what our countries favorite sports were. Then I had her tell, in the case that many Americans moved to a different country, what sport would she likely see them playing when they come together - baseball, football, or basketball of course, was her response.TLanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14510036485918709322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3210108707580237459.post-68455584538242934552010-04-21T09:38:30.673-04:002010-04-21T09:38:30.673-04:00Hey man - good job of walking that fine line of pr...Hey man - good job of walking that fine line of projecting direction at that opportune moment, and not just delivering an opinion that would fall on def ears.

I'm in the midst of a very similar chapter with both of my boys. Their in an endurance and agility training program for this coming football season, yet both are whining I quit after each training session.

Nehemiah, he's motivated to play football as he did well last year, he's just hating the prep.

Tj on the other hand hasn't played at all. All he knows is soccer, and b-ball. We spoke about getting ready for football all last football season as he watched his brother play. He was amped and ready as a spectator, and was sure this is what he wanted. I choose my moments to reason with him asking "does it make sense to reject what you have not tried". The conversation makes perfect sense to him (at the time). Once its time to train football is out the door altogether for him.

I know there's great lessons to be learned in the sport so in my mind I already know that backing out is not an option for him. I just have to be sure not to communicate that to him, so that he can experience the lessons of pushing himself to his own limits to realize he's got more than he thought.

I appreciate your writeup. The first reason I appreciate ur blog is because ypu are helping to dismiss the stereotype that black men are not good fathers. Secondly you are pointing out the fact the the new generation of children are being raised with a sense of entitlement and a lack of respect. I will continue to follow you writings and hope to purchase your book in the near future. Thanking you in advance.
